Police Arrest 100 Suspects in Kampala Operation Over Deadly Weapons and Toxic Substances

Security agencies have arrested 100 people in a coordinated weekend sweep across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, recovering pangas, knives, metallic bars, and suspected toxic chemicals allegedly used in robberies and violent crimes.

At least 100 suspects have been arrested in a weekend joint security operation across the Kampala Metropolitan Area over allegations of possessing deadly weapons and toxic substances.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation targeted criminal hideouts believed to be harbouring gangs behind a wave of robberies and other violent crimes in the city and surrounding districts.

Of the total arrests, six suspects were apprehended in Mukono, another six in Entebbe, while 20 others were captured in the Kireka railway zone.

The remaining suspects were picked up from various suburbs during coordinated night raids.

Police said several exhibits were recovered, including pangas, knives, metallic bars, and containers with suspected toxic chemicals believed to have been used in recent attacks.

“These operations are part of our efforts to curb rising cases of violent attacks and ensure safety ahead of the festive season,” the police statement read.

All suspects are currently being held at different police stations within the Kampala Metropolitan region as investigations and screening continue.

Authorities have warned the public against possessing dangerous weapons or engaging in activities that compromise public safety.

Police said more details will be released once investigations are concluded and the screening process is complete.
